Apart from family, friends, culture and customs, the emigrants from the territory of Slovakia mostly missed the regional food from the “old country”. To this day, when you ask our people in America what they miss most about Slovakia, they answer clearly – “chľib” (bread).

Bread was and is a food that is different in North America than in Central Europe. When Slovaks come to Slovakia from America, they literally cannot get enough of Slovak bread.

We decided to honour this uniqueness of Slovak bread in Kasigarda with a traditional old-fashioned “pecou na chľib” (bread oven), built only from local building materials – clay, brick and straw. The oven is covered with wooden shingles and is made of Tegeňa clay and Kačanovce straw.

The oven can bake up to 10 loaves of bread at a time. We use the oven for all Kasigarda events.
